SI.com reports that the Giants have offered Mark DeRosa a 2 year $12 million deal. With Renteria and Sanchez (hopefully) getting the vast majority of playing time in the middle infield next year, it seems like he's going to be the Juan Uribe of 2010 if we sign him.
Uribe hit .289/.302/.423 with slightly below average defense all around the infield last year. FanGraphs says that Bill James projects DeRosa to hit .260/.335/.418 and he's been a slightly below average defender in his career. So if DeRosa's going to be our Uribe this year, he'll be more than adequate. He could also make a nice platoon partner for Ishikawa at first base.
Overall, if we could get DeRosa for this price (unlikely) it would make a nice pickup that hopefully leaves us enough money to sign an outfielder. Maybe this is a signal that we're more worried about our outfield than first base which would be a nice sign.
